Shootdoku - The Plan
Heyo whoever reads this. Thanks for stopping by.
I've been working on Shootdoku on and off for the past 4ish months now, and during that time I've been pondering on what exactly I want to do with the project. Depending on how I feel that day, I go back and forth between thinking this is a really cool project that could go viral and thinking that this is a stupid one-off project that 2 people will download, so about what most people feel while making something.
Right now, I'm working on a Pitch Deck to possibly pitch the game to a publisher to help justify focusing on this thing. I've been between jobs for several months now, and with how the gaming industry is currently shitting itself regarding studio closures and layoffs, I find it unlikely that I will be finding a way back into the industry any time soon. Tech work has been equally frustrating to find work in, so part of me wants to take the positive feedback I've been given about this project and put my chips in this basket.
Currently, the plan(s)/idea(s) on what to work on next are as follows:
- Fix up a Pitch Deck and look into publishers to pitch to. It's good practice, at least.
- Work on movement mechanics and polish.
- Better wallrunning, maybe double jump, adjust the settings like movement speed and whatnot, see what's fun.
- Menu set up.
- More rooms for the obstacle course. Experiment with what kinds of obstacles are fun.
- Add alternative weapon types. Some random ideas:
- Shotgun - fires in a cone, inputs values in an area. Maybe the further away from the center, the more variance in the value that's inputted.
- Rifle - Slow firing, only fireable while ADS/have slow mo. Automatically shows errors when inputting/shooting a value
- Pistol - Auto-fires towards the nearest empty cell, but can't run when firing and/or no ADS/Slowmo
- Work on visual effects
- Particle effects when firing weapon, footsteps, grid reaction
- Player HUD/UI experimenting.
- Grid visuals
- Settings
- Rebindable controls
- Audio/Video controls and whatnot
- Accessibility features
- Grid options/settings
- Auto-notation, Auto-error display, highlight color, etc...
- A bunch of other things I should think of...
Those are just some ideas and things I plan on working on. I want to make sure I have things written out and listed so I know what aspects of the project I want to work on next, otherwise I tend to get aimless and struggle to know what to do.
Regardless, it's been a good time working on the project. Lets see how far I can take it.
